Account checks, identity and source of funds
No Somali identity framework applies at an offshore cashier. Each operator runs its own checks under the rules of whichever jurisdiction licensed it, so the requirements differ from one site to the next. The operator's terms govern your account. What you control is whether your details match your documents.
When the check tends to happen
Many operators let you register and deposit with very little detail, then ask for documents at a first withdrawal, at a threshold amount, or when something on the account looks inconsistent. Practice varies, and some ask earlier. Completing a check before you have winnings waiting generally makes the experience less frustrating, whatever the operator's policy turns out to be.
Documents commonly accepted
This is what operators across this list commonly ask for. Each one sets its own requirements, so read the terms of the book you are opening.
| What may be asked for | What often satisfies it | Common reason for rejection |
|---|---|---|
| Photo identity | Passport, or a national identity document with a clear photo and expiry date | Cropped edges, glare across the photo, or an expired document |
| Liveness or selfie | A selfie holding the same document | Face and document not clearly visible in the same frame |
| Proof of address | A bank or utility document showing name and address, often required to be recent | Screenshot without the issuer name, or a document older than the operator's window |
| Proof of payment method | An image of the wallet or card used, showing the same name as the account | Name on the payment method does not match the account holder |
| Source of funds | Salary or business documentation, more often requested for larger amounts | Nothing supplied, so the review stalls |
The mismatch that causes the most trouble
Somali names are often recorded in different orders and spellings across documents, wallets and accounts. A compliance reviewer may read a difference as a discrepancy rather than as a transliteration variation. Registering with the exact name string that appears on the document you intend to upload, in the same order, and using the same string on the payment method, removes an avoidable source of delay.
How long it may take
Automated document checks are often quick when the images are clean. Manual review and any source of funds review take longer, and the clock pauses whenever the operator is waiting on something from you. A resubmission usually restarts the process, which is why the first upload is worth getting right. Ask the operator's support team for its own window and check the terms.
Behaviour that may trigger a review
- Depositing and immediately requesting a withdrawal with little or no betting in between.
- Funding from a wallet or card in someone else's name.
- Several accounts operated from one household or one device.
- A deposit pattern that changes sharply without explanation.
Practical checklist
- Photograph your document flat, in daylight, with all four corners visible.
- Register with the name exactly as printed on it.
- Upload documents early rather than at the point you want to withdraw.
- Keep the deposit route and the withdrawal route the same where the operator requires it.
- Save the support ticket reference for anything that goes to manual review.
Important. 18 plus only. Verification requirements, review timescales and what happens to a balance during a review are set by the operator's own terms. Read them before you deposit. This page is general information and not legal advice.
Questions readers ask
Do I need a passport
Not necessarily. Operators often accept a national identity document with a clear photo. A passport tends to be the most widely accepted, but the requirement is set by the operator, so check its terms.
Can I verify with a mobile money statement
Sometimes, as proof of the payment method. It may not satisfy proof of address on its own, because it may not show an address issued by a third party. It depends on what the operator accepts.
Why might a withdrawal be reviewed when the deposit went through instantly
Many operators run lighter checks on the way in than on the way out. Verification is often enforced at the withdrawal stage as a result. The operator's terms will tell you what it does.
Can someone else deposit for me
Operators generally prohibit third party funding, and doing it often breaches the terms you agreed to, which can lead to a closed account or a withheld balance under those terms. Read the operator's terms and use only a payment method in your own name.
